 Refuge & Resurrection Groups

Refuge & Resurrection Groups are a space for LGBTQ+ folks to take refuge, share their journeys and find resurrection in new ways.

Refuge & Resurrection Groups

This fall, we are offering two process groups: Spiritual Writing (Pastoral Care) and Healing Spiritual Trauma and Reclaiming Faith (Pastoral Care). Groups will begin the week of October 14th, and the deadline to sign up is Thursday, October 3rd. Don’t delay - interviews will be held on a rolling basis and slots may fill up quickly!

Mental Wellness R&R groups are led by licensed therapists with expertise in LGBTQ+ mental health; Pastoral Care R&R groups are led by ordained ministers or seminary trained QCF staff with expertise in LGBTQ+ ministry. Groups will meet for 8 weeks, and each group meeting will last 90 minutes.

Estimated Cost: $25-45 per group meeting ($200-360 total for 8 sessions) with a Sliding Scale based on need; full scholarships may be available depending on funding.

Please note that completing a form does not guarantee your registration. It is a preliminary interest form. After you submit this form, someone will be in touch with you regarding setting up an initial conversation regarding joining the R&R Group.

This season, R&R Groups are funded by The Oasis: The LGBT Ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark and the Carpenter Foundation.

Group Descriptions

"Spiritual Writing" Led by Mick Atencio, M.Div.

This Refuge & Resurrection group will be focused on the humbling, life-giving, challenging—and sometimes downright messy—journey of writing as a spiritual practice. Together we will develop our own traditions for spiritual writing, follow prompts to encourage us to open our hearts to the process, and offer each other a safe space of support and encouragement as fellow LGBTQ+ spiritual writers.

“Healing Spiritual Trauma and Reclaiming Faith” Led by Rev. Samantha Hasty, M.Div.

In our 8 weeks together, we will explore what religious trauma has done to our bodies and spirits. We will work to begin healing from our hurts and journey together to reclaim a faith that works for each of us. Our journey together will take many of us in a variety of different spiritual paths, but we seek to never walk alone no matter what. We are better when you are with us!

Leading Healing Spiritual Trauma and Reclaiming Faith Group

Pastor Samantha Hasty (she/her) grew up in Southern Baptist fundamentalism as a queer, neuro-spicy, outspoken woman and found her people along the way as she healed from spiritual traumas and reclaimed a faith that is all her own. She graduated from Earlham School of Religion in 2018 with a Masters of Divinity in Pastoral Ministry and is currently working on her Doctor of Ministry degree. Samantha is the very proud mama to Micaiah and wife of Kellie. She is the founding and current pastor at Pitch in Theology where the whole church works together to heal and grow in community with one another. The principle tenet of their community is that they do not journey alone, so join Samantha on your path to wholeness in spiritual community without the pressure of conformity.
