Welcome to Pride 2024

Welcome to Pride, Beloved! Every June, we celebrate the entire month as LGBTQ Pride Month. This is a time that commemorates years of struggle for civil rights and the ongoing pursuit of equal justice under the laws here in the United States and in various parts of the world. It is a time full of joy, visibility, celebration, and joining at the various intersections of our lives.

Pride is not just about visibility, and the freedom to celebrate in such a public way, it is also about the wholeness we each strive for in every aspect of our lives - In the Divine, in community, and the journey towards that wholeness. To achieve it however, is dependent on us knowing what our purpose is, and where that purpose comes from - in community and with God.

This year, we are thrilled to explore the vibrant and meaningful colors of the original Pride flag, designed by Gilbert Baker, and how the meanings of those colors can apply to our lives today as LGBTQ+ Christians. Over the next month, we will delve into the symbolism behind each color, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community's history, progress, and diversity. Get ready for an inspiring and informative month ahead!

Although June is Pride Month, multiple cities and towns host Pride parades and festivals all year. So below, we have compiled a list of the dates and locations of some Pride festivals across the world—and to mention a couple of Prides where QCF will have a presence. We hope this list gives you an opportunity to engage with your local communities and find opportunities to travel to other Pride celebrations.

This Pride Month we are examining the original meanings of the colors on the first pride flag. We hope that this exercise in remembrance will help us to honor the LGBTQ+ ancestors and activists who came before us, love and celebrate ourselves and the wider queer community, and inspire us to join in a long line of queer artists, activists, poets, and protestors who have insisted upon a more just and inclusive world.
