Introduction | The Great Communion Pre-Conference Devotionals

The theme for the 2020 Q Christian Fellowship Conference is The Great Communion. The Conference passage is 1 Corinthians 12:22-26. We aim to explore how we ‘commune’ with one another while honoring many layers of diversity, including differences that are racial, theological, ethical, political, etc. Communion with one another teaches us to fully see and value one another rather than dividing off into bubbles of shared identities, beliefs, or values. We aim to encourage each unique person to be seen, valued and supported by our community, within our diversity and even amidst disagreement. We believe this is only made possible through centering our identity in Christ.

As we prepare our hearts for this blessed communion, let’s consider over the next 8 weeks the teachings of 1 Corinthians 12 and 13 as we learn to love ourselves, mirror Christ within one another and seek to relate to one another equitably, while celebrating our differences.  We have great capacity to commune within this radically diverse Fellowship because at our core, we have been given the capacity to reflect the love of the Divine.

Our Great Communion Conference Ethos:

We feast from one table where all are welcome;
We wrestle for equity because all are necessary;
We create safety for the rejected so that all are honored;
We hold true to God’s undying love for all since all are God’s beloved.

May we enter into this blessed Communion and,
just as God loves us unceasingly,
may we reflect the Divine increasingly.

Amen.
