Transfiguration | Monday Invocation
“And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.”
— Luke 9:29 NRSVUE
Whenever we see someone in Scripture that encounters the presence of God, we see them changed - physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Whenever we encounter God, can we say the same?
Our time with God should not be ruled by someone else watching or by showing off our relationship with our Creator. Our time with God should be evident on our face, in our actions, and through our words. To encounter Divinity is to be changed. Changed at our core and all the way to our entire being. To be transformed is not always a “beautiful” thing. Jacob understands the pain of brokenness (Gen. 32:22-32) and the people of Israel know what it is to be completely destroyed (Isaiah 6:8-13). As we are in a season of transformation, whether beautiful or painful, we honor that change allows for something new to be born.
My prayer for all of us is to truly have a moment where we spiritually talk and walk with God. Speak about what is happening in these monstrous times. Share our hopes and fears with sincerity. Offer sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving from a deep place in our hearts. I pray that each of us are radically transformed when we encounter God. Because true transformation is what will bring about real hope again in the world around us.
Blessings to each of you as you seek out your transfiguration.
